Riffyn will automatically restructure the data written to each step of an experiment into a single data table that can be imported into 3rd party applications for statistical analysis. Riffyn has been engineered to accelerate that re-structuring by focusing its calculations towards the data that has been edited since the last time these calculations were performed. These restructuring calculations can be initiated at any time and as many times as desired in the manner described below, so that Riffyn can generate a downloadable file more quickly at a later time when it is needed.
The upper right hand corner of Riffyn has a data status indicator that takes many states. A white refresh button with red arrows indicates that some data needs to be restructured before a data table can be exported:
Clicking this refresh button will initiate the restructuring of the data, but will not prompt for a CSV file to be downloaded. Progress is indicated by the fraction of the data status indicator with a green background:
At any time a numeric estimate of the completion percentage can be viewed by hovering over the data status indicator. After restructuring is completed the download icon will appear:
If the experiment is then edited, the data status indicator will again display a white refresh button with red arrows. If the download button is clicked before the experiment is edited, Riffyn will prompt to name a CSV file for download. While Riffyn is preparing that file, progress will again be indicated by the fraction of the data status indicator with a green background:
The download icon will pulse when the requested CSV file is ready for download:
After the file has been downloaded the download icon will change from green back to white. If the experiment is then edited, the data status indicator will again display a white refresh button with red arrows.
If the restructuring calculations or file export fails for any reason, the data status indicator will take on a red background:
Error messages can be viewed and the error state cleared by clicking the red icon. If the error message indicates that a time limit has been reached, please initiate another round of calculations; Riffyn will pick up where it left off before reaching that time limit. If for any reason you are unable to export your data, please e-mail the observed error message to us at email@example.com.
Data status indicators can also be viewed in the Process and Experiment Libraries:
If an Experiment is in the refresh state, some of its data will need to be restructured before it can be exported as a CSV. If a Process is in the refresh state, Riffyn will restructure some of the data for each of its experiments that is in the refresh state. Those experiments can be identified by filtering the experiment library by process name, then reviewing the data status indicators for each of its experiments. Even if a process is in the download state, it may take from seconds to minutes to prepare a CSV file for export, depending on the number and size of its experiments.
